About the Position
The Collections Librarian will be part of a team that provides advice and support to the Collections Team Leader in the management and maintenance of library collections across the Monash Public Library Service. As a part of this you will:
Participate in the development and implementation of practices, guidelines, policies, and procedures including evidence-based collection evaluation.
- Provide efficient procurement, selection and administration of print, multimedia and electronic collections
- Provide support to branches to enable promotion of the collection through a variety of methods and displays
- The incumbent will also work as part of the customer service team providing an efficient and effective library and information service to meet the library needs of the Monash community across our library branches, including evening and weekend shifts
Key Selection Criteria
- A tertiary degree qualification in Librarianship, Information Management or related discipline and eligibility for professional membership (librarian) of the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA)
- Knowledge of current trends and issues in public libraries, particularly in relation to library collections
- Demonstrated experience in library collection procurement, development, maintenance and evaluation
- Proficiency in library management systems and collection development tools
- Demonstrated commitment to customer service excellence, including experience to dealing with difficult customers
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and to collaborate as part of a team
- Demonstrated ability to plan, prioritise and complete work to a high standard, within set timelines and with competing priorities
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
Requirements of the position
- A current and valid Victorian Drivers Licence
- Working with Children Check (Employee)
- Satisfactory National Police Check
- Other pre-employment checks may be required depending on the role requirements
