About the Position

The Gym Instructor / Personal Trainer is a key member of Active Monash Health and Wellness Team. This role provides oversight of each Health Club, assisting members by delivering safe, effective and goal‑oriented exercise advice and instruction on the correct operation of equipment. The position is underpinned by excellent customer service and adherence to the Member Care Pathway.

The role involves undertaking health screenings, fitness assessments and goal setting with members, educating participants on correct exercise technique and injury prevention, and maintaining a clean, safe and welcoming training environment. The Gym Instructor / Personal Trainer plays a vital role in promoting professional behaviour and positive member experiences, supporting ongoing member engagement and retention.

The role also requires engagement across our Group Fitness, Personal Training and Active Communities spaces by assisting with programs and classes that align with the qualifications of a Gym Instructor and Personal Trainer.

Skills and Experience

  • Must hold Certificate III & IV in Fitness
  • Experience in providing exercise and fitness assistance to a range of demographics within the community
  • Experience conducting health screenings and fitness assessments
  • Ability to design safe, effective and goal‑oriented training programs
  • Sound communication, excellent customer service and strong interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to educate members on correct exercise technique and injury prevention
  • A flexible approach to work, with the ability to adapt to varying tasks and priorities
  • Reliable, punctual and self‑motivated, with strong time‑management skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion that aligns with the Active Monash vision, “Participate Your Way”
  • A desire to progress to a Personal Training role and develop a client base

Requirements

  • Completion of Certificate III & IV in Fitness or an equivalent combination of experience and training
  • Sound knowledge and technical skills in prescribing and supervising one‑on‑one and group exercise
  • Experience managing and conducting Personal Training sessions
  • A demonstrated commitment to providing high levels of customer service and professional conduct
  • Ability to maintain a clean, safe and well‑presented training environment
  • Availability to work early mornings, evenings and weekends as required
  • Current Level 2 First Aid Certificate
  • Current CPR Certificate
  • Professional registration with AUSActive
  • Employee Working with Children Check
  • Satisfactory National Police Check
  • Other pre‑employment checks may be required depending on role requirements
