About the Position

The position is responsible for the planning, delivering and evaluation of community capacity building projects and program targeted outcomes for children and young people in the middle years, ages 8 – 14, and their families.

This key developmental stage is marked by the emergence of physical change and function, adolescent thinking, emotional awareness, identity formation and growing independence.  It is also a time of transition into high school and towards peer influence.

Skills and Experience

  • Experience and knowledge of supporting children, young people and their families, in particular children and young people who fall within the middle years cohort (8 – 14 years)
  • Experience in approaches to supporting children, young people and their families with diverse needs
  • Experience in planning, developing, implementing and evaluating capacity building initiatives, group programs and projects for children, young people and families
  • Ability to effectively communicate with a range of mental health, community and education professionals

Requirements

  • Tertiary qualifications in youth work, social work, psychology, teaching, community development or a related field
  • Demonstrated experience in the middle years or youth service sector, including engagement with children and their families, and planning and delivery of community development/community capacity building initiatives
  • Experience in, or knowledge of, strength based and client-centred approaches to supporting children and young people with diverse needs
  • Employee Working with Children’s Check
  • Satisfactory National Police Check
  • Other pre-employment checks may be required depending on the role requirements
