Economic Development is part of the Community Strengthening team which builds community capacity through community partnerships, planning and development initiatives, enabling Council and community partners to make informed, effective decisions.
About the Position
Reporting to the Team Leader Economic Development, the Project Officer Economic Development will lead the development and implementation of key strategic projects which contribute to building a resilient and sustainable local economy. The role will deliver measurable outcomes for the Monash community, with a focus on economic development including research, investment attraction, business support, visitor attraction, and stakeholder engagement.
Your responsibilities include:
- Develop and implement key projects, programs and events to strengthen the economy, create opportunities for local businesses, and attract diverse investment into Monash.
- Understand, analyse and respond to trends, influences and issues affecting economic development within the municipality and the region, including providing demographic, economic, business and industry data in response to both internal and external enquiries.
- Track and report on outcomes of projects and programs.
- Identify viable projects and initiatives relevant to the growth and diversity of the economic base of the municipality.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships and strong partnerships to identify and enable more growth and resilience opportunities in the local economy.
- Develop and deliver accurate presentations on behalf of the City and provide sound evidence-based advice to the Team Leader, Coordinator and Manager.
Skills and Experience
- Demonstrated project management, economic analysis, report and business case writing skills essential.
- Understand effective relationship building and stakeholder management, fostering and showcasing a collaboration and partnership mindset.
- Possess a solid understanding of core elements of local Economic Development and its role in driving a healthy economy and improved community well-being.
- Working knowledge of the sphere of influence of council on local economies, including comprehension of Strategic and Statutory Planning regimes and how they influence local businesses.
- Understanding of long-term unit goals and policies of unit and wider organisation.
Requirements
- Tertiary qualification in a related field – Economic Development, Business Management, Commerce or Marketing with some relevant experience in a similar role, and/or lesser formal qualification with extensive demonstrated experience in a similar role.
- Current Victoria Driver's License
- Employee Working with Children’s Check (if applicable)
- Satisfactory National Police Check
