This position leads the Multicultural portfolio with the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) team. The DEI team works collaboratively with across other teams and departments within Council and within the DEI team including Access and Inclusion, LGBTIQA+, and First Nations. 

About the Position

Reporting to the Team Leader Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) within the broader Community Strengthening department, the Multicultural Partnerships Officer will strengthen community's connection between community organisations and Council services. Working collaboratively with colleagues within the DEI team, the position will:

  • Support the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of evidence-based strategies in Council’s Municipal Health and Wellbeing Plan 2025-29 relating to diversity and multiculturalism
  • Advocate across all levels of Government to meet the needs of key emerging communities
  • Contribute to organisational capacity building for our culturally diverse community
  • Coordinate the Multicultural Advisory Committee

Skills and Experience

  • Well-developed understanding of current multicultural service policies and their application to services provided by Council and other organisations
  • Able to plan, implement, evaluate, and manage high level projects
  • An appreciation for the importance of collaborative decision making
  • Ability to think conceptually and innovatively to develop and deliver programs that benefit people from a multicultural background
  • A strong understanding and experience of working with people with a migrant and linguistically diverse background

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have a relevant tertiary qualification/s in social sciences, health or related areas such as community development, social sciences, and experience in a similar role. The following checks are also a requirement:

  • Employee Working with Children’s Check
  • Satisfactory National Police Check
  • Other pre-employment checks may be required depending on the role requirements
