Well, an exciting, unique opportunity exists to join the City of Monash team as Nursery Supervisor!
The Horticultural Services department creates, enhances and presents highly valued green spaces and places, that our community are proud of.
As Nursery Supervisor you will be integral to delivering a strong, proactive and progressive range of annual planting programs across multiple teams which in turn increases biodiversity and liveability within the city.
About the Position
You will play a key part in delivering Council’s greening and biodiversity objectives by -
- Co-ordinating the ordering, supply and dispatch of stock for planting programs by liaising with nominated council officers on the selection and quantity requirements
- Leading Council’s Indigenous Seed Bank program which includes seed collection, propagation, and maintenance of a local provenance seed bank
- Propagation, growing and maintenance of a wide range of plant species including indoor and indigenous species
- Maintaining Council’s nursery assets and facilities in line with best practise industry standards
- Utilising excellent communication skills to successfully foster relationships with internal/external stakeholders, contractors, customers and suppliers
- Provide information, guidance and specialist advice on plant species and nursery related issues where technical and practical solutions are required
Skills and Experience
- Experience in Nursery horticultural practices including propagation, plant identification, and general horticultural maintenance including indoor plants
- Experience in indigenous plant identification, seed collection, propagation, and maintenance of a local provenance seed bank
- Well-developed interpersonal communication skills and able to communicate effectively with internal/external customers, stakeholders, and suppliers
- Demonstrated experience managing time and prioritising work in response to both organisational needs and peak season demands
- Demonstrated ability to ensure effective and safe operation of Council’s nursery which includes the propagation and maintenance of plants and nursery infrastructure
- Knowledge of and ability to implement relevant and changing nursery technologies including irrigation systems, climate control and evolving work practises
- Excellent knowledge of local indigenous flora which includes seed collection, propagation, and seed bank management
- Well versed in plant procurement, computer literacy skills, and business software packages related to nursery management
Requirements
- Relevant industry qualification in Horticulture and/or Conservation with demonstrated relatable experience
- Physically fit to undertake all manual handling operations
- AgVet Chemicals Users Course/ACUP or willingness to obtain
- Current Victorian driver’s license
- Pre-employment Medical Assessment
- Employee Working with Children's Check
- Satisfactory National Police Check
- Valid Right to Work in Australia
