About the Position
This is a rare opportunity to lead the delivery of innovative biodiversity programs and initiatives to protect, preserve, and enhance the flora, fauna, understory, and tree canopy coverage in Monash. To deliver on this ambitious directive, a specialised program lead is required to implement key projects in a timely manner and engage with community and throughout Council to enhance biodiversity values across the municipality.
In this role you will:
- Deliver key strategic projects to address biodiversity actions in Council's Climate Resilience Plan 2026-2030 and Urban Biodiversity Strategy 2018-2028
- Deliver Council's Green Shoots program including the Gardens for Wildlife program, Nature Strip Planting project, support for Friends Of groups and bush kinder programs, community plantings, education workshops and micro forests program
- Represent Monash on regional biodiversity networks to improve biodiversity values across the region
- Support the delivery of sustainability, greening and conservation initiatives including the biodiversity capital works program
- Effectively engage internal and external stakeholders of the City of Monash to build capacity and active engagement in improving the biodiversity values of all green spaces
Skills and Experience
We are looking for a strategic thinker who can connect people, data and place to create meaningful outcomes. You will bring:
- Demonstrated experience in coordinating and delivering biodiversity projects, programs, education and other initiatives
- Strong stakeholder engagement and management skills, in particular to inform, negotiate and build consensus between stakeholders
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement, innovation and best practice in biodiversity, conservation and sustainability
- A good understanding of biodiversity, natural environment and sustainability challenges within a Local Government context
- Advanced understanding of project management across projects of a municipal, community and/or commercial nature
- Demonstrated experience in successfully managing multiple concurrent projects, including budget, project schedule and stakeholder management
Requirements
- Tertiary qualifications in environmental science, ecology, conservation biology, horticulture or a related field is highly desirable
- Current and valid Victorian Driver Licence
- Employee Working with Children’s Check
- Satisfactory National Police Check
- Other pre-employment checks may be required depending on the role requirements
