We’re seeking a strategic and dynamic leader to guide Council's communications function and drive high-quality engagement with our community.
Reporting to the Executive Manager, Communications, Customer Experience and Venues you will provide leadership to a team of specialists, delivering impactful communications aligned to Council priorities and community expectations. You will establish clear frameworks for planning and prioritising communications, ensuring resources are focused where they matter most.
About the position
This role partners closely with leaders across the organisation to embed best-practice communication planning, strengthen capability, and support successful delivery of key initiatives. You will also oversee media engagement, manage emerging issues, and lead internal communications to enhance staff connection and culture.
About you
You are an experienced communications leader with:
- Strong strategic thinking and stakeholder influence skills
- Proven experience leading and developing high-performing communications teams
- Expertise in planning, resourcing and evaluating communications program
- The ability to manage competing priorities and advise on complex issues
Skills and experience
- Significant experience leading, coaching and developing a team of specialists to provide a consistently good advisory service to cross functional business teams
- Exceptional relationship management skills including the ability to negotiate with and influence senior leaders
- Experience developing and embedding systems, tools and processes to support good communications practice and planning across the organisation
Requirements
- Degree or diploma with significant relevant experience plus post graduate qualifications or qualifications/experience in another field OR lesser formal qualifications with extensive and diverse experience, or intensive relevant specialist experience
- Satisfactory National Policed Check
- Other pre-employment checks may be required depending on the role requirements
