The Local Economy and Place team delivers strategic projects and partnerships that strengthen Monash’s local economy while creating vibrant, connected and inclusive places for the community. The team works with businesses, community groups and stakeholders to support economic resilience, encourage civic participation and deliver place-based outcomes that enhance community life.

About the role

You will lead and deliver place-based and economic development initiatives that strengthen the local economy and create vibrant, inclusive and connected places across the City of Monash. Note this is not an economics role.

  • Lead place-based and economic development programs aligned with Council’s Economic Development Strategy
  • Design and deliver initiatives that support inclusive economic participation and local business growth
  • Build strong partnerships with businesses, community groups, government and internal stakeholders
  • Use economic, demographic and community insights to inform programs, advice and local actions
  • Support local procurement participation, funding opportunities and community-led outcomes
  • Monitor, evaluate and report on program impact and continuous improvement

About you

You are a proactive and community-focused professional with a strong commitment to inclusive local outcomes.

  • Experience in economic development, placemaking and/or community development, ideally within a local government context
  • Strong project management, planning and organisational skills, and ability to manage multiple projects concurrently
  • Ability to analyse data, monitor outcomes and provide clear advice and reports
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Proven ability to build partnerships and work collaboratively across diverse groups
  • A solutions-focused approach and commitment to continuous improvement
