The Property Department oversees Council's property portfolio and is responsible for the following:

  • Management of major developments on Council owned or managed land.
  • Provision of leases and licences for Council owned or managed land.
  • Discontinuance, sale and naming of laneways and roads.
  • Disposal and acquisition of Council land.
  • Strategic Property advice to the organisation.

About the Position

The Property Officer is responsible for the following objectives:
  • Provide technical advice and administrative support to the Property Team Leader and Coordinator Property & Strategic Projects.
  • Assist in managing Council’s property portfolio, including documentation for land purchases/sales, road discontinuances, easements, subdivisions, leases, and licenses.
  • Maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders to ensure occupancy agreements are up-to-date and compliant with legislation and Council policies.
  • Ensure legislative and policy compliance through standardised documentation and accurate record keeping.

Skills and Experience

  • Relevant experience in a property management-related discipline, within a commercial, government or not-for-profit environment.
  • Experience in a local government setting (highly desirable).
  • Experience with drafting and/or interpreting legal contracts (highly desirable).
  • Tertiary qualifications in Business/Property Management or equivalent (highly desirable, but not essential).
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation such as the Local Government Act, Land Act, Subdivision Act, Land Acquisition and Compensation Act, Transfer of Land Act and Retail Leases Act.
  • Demonstrated relevant previous experience working with property, land management, property project management, road discontinuances, land sales/acquisitions and preparation of occupancy agreements.

Requirements

  • Current valid Victorian Drivers Licence.
  • Employee Working with Children’s Check (if applicable)
  • Satisfactory National Police Check; and
  • Other pre-employment checks may be required depending on the role requirements.
