The role of Area Manager: Inclusion and Development will develop and foster an inclusive and inspired workforce within Active Monash that supports the delivery of high performing and customer focussed programs and services enabling the service to achieve its vision.

The position will develop leadership techniques, system approaches and support change to create a positive and rewarding environment within Active Monash.

The focus will be on ensuring people within the unit will have the necessary capabilities and tools to achieve current and future organisation objectives and to develop and sustain a positive staff culture across Active Monash.

About the Position:

The successful incumbent will be responsible for:

  • Setting and reporting against broader strategic direction for Active Monash, to support Council in achieving its objectives through: A Healthy and Resilient Monash: Integrated Plan 2021-2025, Council Plan and long term vision.
  • Coordinate the recruitment, induction, training and development of Active Monash staff by working closely with the People and Safety Team and following the Council's internal policies and procedures.
  • Build an inclusive work environment through the development and implementation of training, initiatives and programs to teach employees how to be supportive to people of difference races and ethnicities, disabilities, gender identities and sexual orientations.
  • Undertake action research and community consultation to ensure that the needs of local communities is accounted for in the development of any new initiatives.
  • Develop a range of networks within community, not-for-profit and relevant community and commercial operations and associated professions to ensure ongoing expansion, development, community awareness and growth of Active Monash programs, services, social inclusion and diversity.
  • Oversee and coordinate the preparation of corporate documents and reporting including budget, business plan, monthly reports, Local Government Performance Reporting, Service Improvement Plan and corporate communication.

Skills and Experience:

The successful candidate will have the following:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Physical Education/Human Movement/ or Business Management or relevant field
  • Experience in managing and delivering programs and services in recreation facility /or similar community centre environment.
  • Qualifications and/or experience in staff training/adult learning/inclusion and/or Gender Equity.
  • High developed interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Working with Children’s Check,

Requirement of the position:

  • All applicants are required to be legally entitled to work in Australia.
  • All successful applicants will be required to undertake a police check.
  • Other pre-employment checks may be required depending on the role requirements.

Essential Information:

In accordance with the Chief Health Officer direction, all local government employees must be fully vaccinated from 26 November, 2021. Successful candidates will be required to demonstrate evidence of vaccination status or medical exemption prior to commencement.
