About the Position:

The Senior Social Policy & Advocacy officer will guide the development of Council’s social policies and coordinate high-profile Monash Council advocacy agendas on pressing public health and social policy issues such as social housing and homelessness.

The position will:

  • Lead the development of Council’s social policies and contribute to the development and implementation of the Municipal public health and wellbeing plan
  • Coordinate the implementation the Monash Social Housing Framework 2020 – 2025
  • Coordinate the Regional Local Government Homelessness & Social Housing Charter Group coalition comprised of 13 East and South-East Councils with support by the Eastern Region Group of Councils, MAV, EAHA and Homes Victoria
  • Work within Council to advocate and increase social housing stock in Monash
  • Oversee the implementation of the Monash Loneliness Framework 2020 – 2025
  • Lead high-profile political campaigns and policy agendas on topical issues of importance to the Monash community
  • Prepare, monitor, research and analyse and present information, social data and statistics to inform strategic plans and to meet the requirements of the community, Council staff, Government Departments, agencies and other customers

Skills and Experience:

  • Excellent research, writing and policy development, statistical analysis & evaluation skills
  • Ability to broker strong partnerships across Council and externally
  • Strong ability to advocate and liaise to achieve specified outcomes
  • Expertise in public policy, public health and social research
  • Well-developed knowledge and understanding of issues relating to Local Government
  • Proficient project and resource management skills
  • Well-developed knowledge and experience in community engagement & consultation practice
  • Knowledge and understanding of demographic and census data sources and uses

Requirement of the position:

  • Satisfactory National Police Check; and
  • Other pre-employment checks may be required depending on the role requirements.

Essential Information:

In accordance with the Chief Health Officer direction, all local government employees must be fully vaccinated from 26 November, 2021. Successful candidates will be required to demonstrate evidence of vaccination status or medical exemption prior to commencement.
